Director Note 11/24/2023 Opening Day!

 Hi guys.

Wowsers! What a great opening day! You all did a fantastic job. Here are a few notes.

I left my phone in the green room. I get texts and calls on my computer but if you call it’ll go to voicemail till tomorrow.

Tomorrow is the Auburn Parade. We need to go right after work as the parade starts at 5:00. I have attached the info from Auburn with all the info!

Please dress extra warmly! Layer, layer layer! Bring a change of socks. We have hand warmers which will help immensely. If you get chilled and need to go into the green room to  warm up, you are NOT released to leave. Get warmed up, get a new hand warmer and go back out and finish the day. If you need to leave you must get approval from a staff member!

Also, bring a cup for water! We will have water available but not in little plastic bottles. Sorry that slipped through the cracks today.

We will take the Royals to carol at Strawberry Fields tomorrow right after revels. I would also love some carolers to drop in at the Lakeside Artisans Craft show at the Presbyterian Church, where rehearsals were. Any group, any time!

Don’t forget to communicate with the appropriate Director if you need help with something. The Director list is at the bottom and every Director note!

We will run through the opening again in the morning before heading out.

Again, Thanks for a great job!
Cheers!
Jim

On behalf of Auburn Downtown BID and the City of Auburn, we thank you for your participation. This annual event is a great time for family & friends to be creative and have fun. Here are details & instructions for parade participants:

WHERE: The parade will assemble on E. Genesee Street starting at the N. Fulton Street intersection on the north side of the street, and continue east along E. Genesee Street. The side streets will not be utilized, and many will be closed to traffic after 4PM. Seward Avenue will remain open, so please use this cross street for access to Genesee Street.

WHEN: Line-up is at 4:15 – 4:45PM, and the parade starts @ 5PM.

LINE-UP: There were some additional late parade entries. Click here for the final line-up list.

Please note what number you are on the line-up, and who is in front of and behind you. Then, look for the name of your business/organization on signs staked out on E. Genesee Street. Each participant is allotted the total footage submitted on their form. Line-up next to your sign, as space is calculated from the sign back heading east towards Hoopes Park. Please do not arrive before 4PM, or take space away from those next to you in the line-up.

FLOAT COMPETITION: The judges request that participants make an extra effort to identify their float. Prominently displayed signs & banners are needed to show who is who! Floats are judged on a point system based on holiday theme, creativity, identity, and enthusiasm.

PRIZES: Cash prizes sponsored by Tompkins Community Bank are awarded to the three top floats.
First place receives $150; second place receives $100, and third receives $75. Winners are announced at the Tree Lighting Ceremony on Memorial City Hall steps, following the parade.

SAFETY: To ensure everyone’s safety there will be NO CANDY THROWN from floats & vehicles. You may have people walking & handing out candy. This also helps with parade flow, as crowds won't block the parade path and slow it down by catching candy.

GUIDELINES: We encourage holiday music, decorative lights & fun costumes to make the event more festive. Gentle reminder, please NO SANTAS or Mrs. CLAUS on floats or other vehicles in the parade. BID has special arrangements made for them to be on a float at the end of the parade, and seeing multiples may confuse children.

TRAFFIC FLOW: Last, it’s very important when you reach the end of the parade route to please keep moving. You can continue straight towards Wegmans, or turn right onto South Street to unload your float & vehicles. If you can unload elsewhere, further away from parade activity, it's much appreciated.
